Toxic to pets

The scaly foliage of Chinese arborvitae is harmful to people and pets if eaten, and the aromatic oil in it can bring up a rash on repeated handling, such as when clipping a hedge. Wear gloves and long sleeves to clip it and stop children and pets eating the leaves or cones. Get medical advice if a person has swallowed any, and contact a vet if a pet has.
