Toxic to pets

Switchgrass is a risk to horses, sheep and goats that graze it or eat it in hay: the leaves and stems can damage the liver and cause sunburn-like damage to pale skin. Cattle are not affected. Keep it out of paddocks and hay, and ring your vet if a horse, sheep or goat has eaten it; there is no hazard to people on our record.
