Growing notes
Grows to 4-8 metres. Space about 400-800cm apart. In flower November to March.
Safe around pets
Loquat is grown for its fruit and the ripe flesh is good to eat, raw or cooked. The seeds are the part to leave alone: like plum and cherry kernels they contain compounds that release cyanide, so do not crack or chew them, and spit the pips out. Keep pips and prunings away from dogs and cats. If a person swallows and chews a quantity of seeds, get medical advice; if a pet does, contact a vet.
