Toxic to pets

The bulbs, leaves and sap of silver squill contain oxalic acid: it is harmful to people if eaten and the sap can irritate skin, so keep it out of children's reach and wear gloves when repotting. Cats are especially at risk, with vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy and in bad cases kidney failure; dogs get vomiting, drooling and diarrhoea. Get medical advice if a person has swallowed any, and contact a vet straight away if a pet has chewed it.
