Toxic to pets

Flax contains a substance that releases cyanide, but only a large amount of the raw plant or seed is a problem; in quantity it can cause breathlessness, weakness and convulsions in a person or an animal. Grazing animals are most at risk from green flax or raw linseed. Get medical advice if a child has eaten a lot of the raw plant or seed, and contact a vet if an animal has.
