Growing notes

Grows to 8-12 metres. Space about 400-800cm apart. In flower Apr-May.

Safe around pets

The seeds and the leaves contain compounds that release cyanide if a quantity is chewed and eaten; the fruit flesh is safe. Do not eat the pips by the handful, and keep windfalls with their cores, prunings and fallen leaves away from pets. If a person eats a lot of pips or leaves, get medical advice; if a pet chews them, contact a vet.
