Toxic to pets
Clematis sap is a skin irritant: the bitter sap released when you cut or crush the plant can make skin sore, so wear gloves and wash your hands afterwards. Dogs and cats that chew it get a sore mouth, drooling and stomach upset. For a skin reaction get medical advice; if a pet chews the plant, ring your vet.
