Toxic to pets
Callisia is poisonous if eaten: the leaves, stems, flowers and sap contain calcium oxalate crystals that irritate the mouth and throat and cause vomiting and diarrhoea, and the leaf oil can irritate skin, so wear gloves and keep it away from children. Dogs and cats that chew the leaves are affected in the same way. If a person eats any, get medical advice; if a pet chews it, ring your vet.
