Toxic to pets

The rhizome of bloodroot, the fleshy root that bleeds orange-red sap when cut, is seriously poisonous: eating it can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, fainting, dilated pupils and heart failure in a person or a pet, and the sap irritates skin and eyes. Wear gloves when dividing it and keep children and pets away from the roots. Get medical advice straight away if a person has eaten any part, and contact a vet if an animal has.
