Safe around pets

Berberis berries are ornamental and not for eating: the plant is rated low toxicity, but a person who eats a lot of the berries may get a mild stomach upset, so keep children from picking them. Dogs and cats that eat a quantity may likewise get a mild upset. If a child eats a lot of berries, get medical advice; if a pet does, ring your vet.
