Grows to 8-12 metres. Space about 800+cm apart. In flower Apr-May.
Toxic to pets
Bay leaves are used in cooking, but the berries are ornamental and not for eating. For dogs and cats the leaves are mildly toxic and can upset the stomach, and a whole leaf swallowed can cause a blockage, so keep fallen leaves and prunings away from pets. If a pet eats any, contact a vet.
