Repotting
Fresh compost can carry bacteria that cause a lung infection (Legionnaires' disease). Open the bag at arm's length, wear gloves, dampen the compost to keep dust down, avoid breathing in the dust, and wash your hands afterwards.
- Where to get help
- the warning on the compost bag label, or NHS 111 if you feel unwell after handling compost
How
Repot in spring when roots fill the pot, into one size larger with fresh compost.
Notes
Do not over-pot; a huge pot stays wet and rots roots.
